For a traditional car seat, mark where to sew on handle straps as follows:

  • Find the 21st of scales. Counting from left to right, find the 7th scale, place marker. Still counting from left to right from the 7th scale of row 21st, count 3 more scales, place marker on 10th scale of the row (see picture below).
  • Sew first rows of each strap on 7th and 10th scales of row 21th as you marked above.
  • Sew on buttons on first row of each strap opposite of buttonhole.

Counting from left to right, find the 7th scale, place marker. Still counting from left to right from the 7th scale of row 21st, count 3 scales, place marker the 10th scale of the row. Sew handle straps over 7th and 10th scales.

  1. I love this! The colors are beautiful. Do you think you could develop a pattern for a child’s mermaid tail blanket. I think the way you did the edging on the bottom would be perfect for the bottom fin.

  2. Ive seen people cover their baby like this in the summer. Sure, it blocks the sun, but what about the buildup of heat in that small area?
